We were honoured to have so many deserving applications and hope that for many years we will be recognizing athletes, coaches and umpires in their pursuit of academic excellence.

The “Medicine Hat Minor Softball Association Scholarships ” are awarded to recognize Medicine Hat Minor Softball Association players, umpires and/or coaches who have demonstrated a strong commitment to the sport of softball through active participation and volunteer involvement. The full Scholarships Policy can be found in the MHMSA Policy & Procedures Manual under section 2.7.
Up to four (4) yearly $500 scholarships will be awarded at the end of each season:
- Up to two (2) Thunder Player Scholarships
- Up to one (1) House League Player Scholarship
- Up to one (1) Umpire or Coach Scholarship
Application & Selection Process
1. Applicants are required to complete and submit the current season's “MHMSA Scholarship Application Form” and all required documentation by September 15th at midnight to mhmsasecretary@gmail.com with the Subject Line: (Current year) MHMSA Scholarship Application. Incomplete or late applications will not be considered.
2. The following must accompany the completed application form:
- Personal letter explaining how softball has impacted your life, involvement to date, future softball and academic goals, and why you believe you deserve the Scholarship.
- Resume outlining your involvement as a player, coach, volunteer or umpire as well as any awards that you have received.
- Proof of full-time enrollment at a recognized post-secondary institution.
3. The Scholarship Selection Committee will review all applications and supporting documentation submitted. Selection will be based on demonstrated participation and involvement in softball with Medicine Hat Minor Softball Association.
4. A Scholarship Selection Committee composed of three (3) people will be identified each season. The Scholarship Selection Committee reserves the right to not award a scholarship if a suitable application is not received. Decisions of the Scholarship Selection Committee are final.
5. Scholarship recipients will be announced at the MHMSA Annual General Meeting (AGM) in November of each year.
6. Funds will be paid directly to the successful applicant(s) by November 15th.
Eligibility
- Applicants must be enrolled full-time and currently attending a recognized North American post-secondary institution this fall. (ie. universities, community colleges, technical institutions).
- Applicants must have been a registered player, coach or umpire for a minimum of two (2) seasons with Medicine Hat Minor Softball Association.
- Applicants may apply for a scholarship annually, but may only be awarded one scholarship per season.
- Applicants must be in good standing with MHMSA and have not received any disciplinary action by MHMSA or Softball Alberta.
